Presidents Desk
My ultimate wish as QMFA president would be that our association may have the privilege to represent every Queensland government qualified professional farrier. This would enable us to have a strong and diverse association representing all disciplines of the farrier world in the great state of Queensland. We have some of Australia’s number one farriers, some may say the worlds best Farriers. With the amount of Qld farriers competing and working all over the world this is a fair assumption to be made. Keep up the good work!
Yours sincerely
Kerry Ireland
As a Racing Farrier
As a farrier that predominantly attends to racehorses and shoes a few dressage horses mainly Warm Blood's , I am shocked at the prejudice against the “racing farrier”. After completing what I was told was, “ a very good job”, on my client’s horse, the client advised me that I should not say I was a racing farrier. Apparently some horse owners are under the impression as she said,” A race horse farrier just slaps on the shoe with no care at all”.
That could not be further from the truth. In my experience a well trained, job conscience farrier from any horse discipline can do a very professional job as is required by the horse and owner. For the horse to perform at it’s best, remember it is a team effort between rider, owner, horse & professional farrier.
I’m sure anyone employing someone to shoe their horse worth up to and beyond 30 million dollars would not allow a farrier of such substandard practices into their stables.
Till next month bye for now.
