High Point Award
This award is open to all farrier's who shoe racehorses, regardless of whether they are a member of this association or not. Over a series of 12 races covering all the Group Ones during the Brisbane Winter Racing Carnival as well as the best prize money races from Toowoomba, Gold Coast, Ipswich and Sunshine Coast. Farrier's are awarded 7 points for shoeing the winner, 3 points for second and 1 point for third. The highest points tally wins the award. The winner receives his award at the Queensland Racing Industry awards night. This helps to lift our profile as a trade as well as recognising the contribution a farrier makes to the team trying to get horses ready for major races. Throughout the year I will display the results of each race in the series and the current leader board so come and check it out from time to time. Who knows, your farrier could be in the running.
2008 High Point Award
For the second year in a row the High Point Award was decided on the last day of the series. The Caloundra Cup winner Fast Future ensured Kristian Coats would pick up the award for 2008 after finishing a close equal second last year. Kristian was 3 points behind Kerry Ireland before the race, with Kerry having the raging favourite Ballack. While Ballack had the run of the race he was the first one beaten when they straightened up and Fast Future raced away for a convincing win. The win took Kristian's points tally to 31 which is a new record for the award, eclipsing the 27 set by Chris McMullen last year. Comiserations to Kerry Ireland who has finshed second for two years running. Maybe 2009 will be his year

2008 winner Kristian Coats
The Final Placing's were
1st Kristian Coats 31 pts
2nd Kerry Ireland 27 pts
=3rd Jeff Pagden 14 pts
=3rd Chris McMullen 14 pts
2007 High Point Award
At the 2007 Racing Industry Awards Chris McMullen was presented with the inaugural High Point Award. In its first year this award was hotly contested by farriers all over South East Qld. Going into the last race of the series Chris was only 1 point clear of Kerry Ireland and Kristian Coats tied for second. Chris was able to get Scattergun into second place which gave him enough points to bound clear of the others. As this will become an annual event we look forward to seeing who the winners will be in the coming years. Chris is one of our busiest farriers in Qld and works for many of the leading racing stables. Congratulations Chris.
